Limits of the brain

The human brain has a natural limit: on average, a brain can process (think through, overview) about 8 “things” at the same time. As long as this limit is not exceeded, you often don’t even notice that you are “thinking.”

This limit is already reached with a decision involving only 3 simple yes/no conditions:

Each additional condition multiplies the number of possible decision paths, making it increasingly difficult and error-prone to think through, overview, describe, program, and test all case variants.
